For those looking for a unique animal experience in San Diego, I highly suggest spending an evening at Whiskers & Wine! Whether you’re looking for that purrrfect date spot or just an excuse to hang out with adoptable cats in a bar-like setting, this cat cafe is one-of-a-kind!
Whiskers and Wine is San Diego’s only liquor-licensed cat café lounge that even has a rooftop lounge!
They have done a fabulous job with creating such an exciting environment to hang out with cats. Not only do they have a full bar and an enticing food menu, but they also host fun events such as cat yoga, singles night, bingo and even a cat disco!
We started the evening off by ordering some flatbreads and a charcuterie board, a meowgarita and wine and headed up to the (caged in) rooftop for some sunset cat play.
This is a FAR less stressful environment for these kitties than a shelter but they very much are up for adoption. You may notice when visiting that many of the cats look like they’ve come from a rough past and have some stories they could tell.

One of the cats looked like a skinny, sweet elderly lady who was deaf. Another one was missing an eye. Each cat comes with a story and all are looking for their forever home.
The maximum capacity is 14 people to keep the environment peaceful for the cats, but that doesn’t mean that this isn’t a fun time for all. 
Please note that the cat’s health, safety & well-being are their number one priority. They have a no tolerance policy if one of their guests harms a cat in any way. Do not pick up the cats. They will come to you if you are chill. 
There is an entry fee in order to visit but this is largely because of the small capacity limit. Because only 14 people are allowed inside at anytime, that means that they need to make enough money to keep the business around!
By ordering food, drinks or cute items from their boutique, you are helping to keep this business around. 
Whiskers and Wine gets their cats from Community Cat Foundation. They mention on their website that if you find a stray cat, to not drop it off at Whiskers and Wine but you can instead bring it to the Community Cat Foundation.
Cat yoga is almost every Saturday and Sunday at 10 am. You can also rent out the space for private events! Check out some of the shots from our evening:

Definitely consider purchasing some cute items from their boutique! They carry a lot of hand-made items from local artists. Yay!
