Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

**We do not give directions to Marshall Scotties as this is private property that people live at**

Back in the 70’s-early 90’s, Marshall Scotties was at its prime and often filled with happy kids and their families. The park offered a mini Tilt-a-Whirl, a dipping “Bulgy the Whale” ride, ring-the-bell boat ride, roller coaster, 20-foot-high Ferris wheel, airplanes, bumper cars and even a waterslide!

The owner dreamed of turning it into a world-class water park and in 1989, invested $500,000 to add a go-cart track and install the longest water slide of its kind in Southern California.

By the late 90’s, the owner unfortunately filed for bankruptcy and the park has sat abandoned ever since. NOTE: Though the theme park has been abandoned, people DO still live on the property.

Personal Experience: I have many fond memories of visiting this theme park as a child, celebrating birthdays and being all too excited for the days my dad would tell us to get ready because we were going to be spending a day there!  I will have to see if I can pull up some photos of us as children here.

My favorite part and what I feel was the most unique aspect of this park was the water slide built that was built into the mountain.  I’d never seen a park do that before. It’s a shame to see what happened to a place that holds so many fond memories for me and I know many others.

My daughter and I went on a Sunday and parked at the church. No dogs no people. It was a blast! But I swear there was something weird in the haunted house!

There are cameras now. ( 4K) and alarm system. After being vandalized trespassers will be charged. Do not go into the park.

I took the I8 east to exit 23, turned right, but had a really hard time finding any way into the park. All the gates were locked. I parked below the junior high at the church next door (after school hours), and went through a breach in the back gate. There is a trailer parked back there that you can tell is being lived in, but no one came out during the half hour or so I spent walking around the haunted amusement park. (I wish I had known to look for a water slide, but I didn’t know about it until after I got home. ) No sheriffs arrived. The only people there were about 6 goats and 2 friendly dogs. I walked the whole park, it isn’t very big, from ticket window up top to ticket window down on the bottom. I would be super scared to go there at night, even without all the actors that are on the haunted trail. The place is creepy. When I got to the entrance of a fence that had one word painted on it, “pray”, I only took two steps inside to figure out it was a maze then turned around and got the heck out of there. That’s when the big black dog brushed up against me and I nearly fainted. It and its buddy let me pet them and they walked with me the rest of the time. I was more afraid of the sinister goats than I was of the dogs; the goats came up on me fast and tried to surround me. Still no humans, though. I checked out the roller coaster, bumper car barn, and the rest of the dilapidated old relics before heading up the hill to the “exit this way” turnstile. Either I had the day wrong, or my job interview was held at a different location; I never saw another human at all. The trip wasn’t a total loss, however, because exploring around the old place was pretty cool. Nobody bothered me or called the sheriff, but of course, I was alone and quiet and the dogs liked me, so maybe I came and went undetected. The place is a trip, nothing like the pictures you can find online, because now it is overgrown with pumpkin vines, bushes, and trees, and fences were in the process of being erected for the haunted trail. I’d post some pictures here for you, but they are mysteriously absent from my phone.

I remember my parents taking me and my brother to this place called Marshal Scotties from around 1975 – 1980. I remember that ferris wheel, the bumper cars, roller coaster, tilt a whirl and the ponies that we could ride. It was a fun place back then. It was always busy in the Summer time. So many memories from this place. Now it is like a ghost town that is definitely slowly decaying with time.
