Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

About Nurtured by Nature

Nurtured by Nature Nurtured by Nature in Pauma Valley is definitely one of the most unique animal sanctuaries in San Diego County.  They are most known for their swims with otters, but there is so much more to them than just that.

They are big on wildlife rescue, education and conservation which really shines through in every effort they do.

The property was actually the grounds of an old chapel and gives it a rustic, back-country feel.  This family-run facility offers a safe haven for the animals while allowing visitors to connect with a variety of species, from large birds of prey to fun creatures like sloths!

While you’re in the area, make sure to visit Quixote Farm nearby!

The organization focuses on fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife and the importance of environmental stewardship through engaging tours and interactive experiences. Guests can explore beautifully landscaped gardens, participate in hands-on animal encounters and learn about the efforts to rehabilitate and protect local wildlife.

Public Otter Encounter

We did their public otter encounter which included so many surprising animal experiences.  I got to meet one of my favorite animals: a sloth!  And also the absolutely ADORABLE capybaras!

They were so friendly and even purr when they’re happy!

Other animals we met were an injured bald eagle

A porcupine:

Several armadillos:

Bat-eared foxes which ate right out of our hands. And many more sweet creatures!

The otter swim will most likely be the most exciting part for most people.  We mostly got video so please enjoy this photo to give you a taste of what you’re in for.

We swam with 4 otters for an hour.  They are as sweet as can be with high energy like a puppy or kitten!  They are SO much fun to hang out with!
