Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

About Calico Cidery

If you’re into historical locations with back-country vibes and tasty ciders, you definitely need to check out Calico Cidery! The property has been an orchard since the 1920’s and some of the 100 year old pear trees are still in use today!

Today the property is 3 generations strong and has been lovingly tending to the orchard since the 1960’s! For decades the Young family has hosted u-pick gatherings and fruit sales during harvest season on their property/

In 2018, son David Young, a winemaker with a degree in pomology and the son of Conrad Young, began collaborating with other Julian locals to create Calico Cidery.

They practice organic and regenerative practices on their land which not only creates a healthy ecosystem but very tasty ciders! All ciders are created with 100% of apples and pears from Julian making this a 100% local company.

They specialize in dry, hard ciders free from gluten, sulfites, and added sugars. Their ciders contain only two ingredients: apples and native yeast.

Some of their more complex flavors incorporate ingredients from other parts of their orchard such as honey from their bees, wild herbs and pears.

After they wash and ferment their apples they keg them for public consumption in their tasting room.  They sell flights which include all four rotating ciders, as well as pints, 32-oz growlers, and 64-oz growlers

While you’re in the area, make sure to visit Fort Cross Old Timey Adventures nearby!

Their tasting room actually has a bar imported from an 1880’s New York bar.  It definitely has an old presence and fits in perfect with the tasting room.

Guests are welcome to drink inside with beautiful views of their orchard and 100 year old oak trees or can sit on their picnic benches outside within the orchard.

They also have merchandise and local art available for purchase!
