Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!
Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is one of my absolute favorite resorts in San Diego. No detail has been left out here. With a fascinating history dating back to the 1940’s, get ready to spend your time walking through lush gardens mixed with old Wastern charm.
Guests can enjoy spacious decorated rooms with an elegant and rustic charm, a full-service spa and gourmet dining options. With its close proximity to La Jolla beaches this is a great spot to spend an evening or to book a stay!
Estancia La Jolla has several dining options, all within an upscale setting. You absolutely HAVE to dine at Mustangs and Burros. We were SO impressed with the rich, authentic Mexican flavors. It truly felt like multi-generational recipes past down.
Mustangs and Burros was actually named one of OpenTable’s Best Outdoor Dining Venues of 2022! The food is described as Baja coastal-inspired cuisine with a Southern California twist.
Executive Chef sources seasonal ingredients from San Diego to create dishes and shareable plates for friends and family to enjoy alongside refreshing craft cocktails.
The Greenfinch Restaurant & Bar is just as elegant as Mustangs and Burros, but comes with its own unique flair. They also only serves breakfast and lunch. This is perfect because Mustangs & Burros only serves dinner!
The theme of the Greenfinch Restaurant & Bar is a sophisticated garden tea party which is really noticeable in the bar area which is currently in a decorative collaboration with Native Poppy.
The restaurant is set above the central Garden Courtyard and features an open terrace. We sat on the outdoor patio over-looking the courtyard and felt like we were in England or somewhere far-off and beautiful.
I have had the lovely opportunity of visiting a fair share of San Diego’s best spas and this one is definitely in the top 3. Apparently I’m not the only one that’s a big fan as they were named “Best Spa” by San Diego Magazine.

Estancia La Jolla has a rich history that dates back to the early 1940s when the property was originally a working horse ranch owned by the influential local family, the Blacks. This would also be the same last name that Black’s Beach is named after.
The 132 acre home was designed by Santa Fe historic architect William Lumpkins. The ranch, known for its beautiful adobe-style architecture and expansive gardens, played a significant role in the development of the La Jolla area. In the early 2000’s, the property was transformed into the luxury hotel that we know and love today.
The hotel plays into the property’s history with many nods to the ranch it once was. x
