We recently got the opportunity to attend one of Mainly Mozart’s outdoor symphonies in Del Mar. For 30 years, the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra has been home to the largest gathering of Concertmasters and Principal Players in the United States. In 2020, Mainly Mozart became the first arts organization in the United States to produce a live orchestral concert series in front of live audiences since quarantine.
Principal members of 28 of the world’s greatest orchestras, including the LA Phil, New York Phil, Boston Symphony, and our very own San Diego Symphony performed together on one stage, under the baton of Mainly Mozart Music Director Michael Francis.
This was so exciting to attend on many levels for me. For one, it was the first concert I’ve attended since Covid first hit and really helped give a sense of things returning to normal.
People were outside together sans masks, with picnic blankets laid out and delicious-looking meals & drinks. Everyone looked so happy to be outdoors in a social environment.
It was also exciting because this was the first symphony I’ve ever attended! I grew up playing classical music on the piano and have always felt a deep connection to this genre. To get to witness such immense talent in person and in such a beautiful setting was very impacting.
We got the opportunity to sit at one of their VIP tables which was amazing! Looking behind me at the lawn section and everyone laid out on their blankets and chairs, I can tell you that either area is highly enjoyable.
We received a complementary charcuterie board and bottle of wine which only enhanced our experience. Nothing like touching on all the senses at the same time! Mainly Mozart will have many more exciting events down the line, so I recommend bookmarking their website and following them on Instagram to stay updated!
I couldn’t get a good shot of the lawn area but it looked so lovely. People went ALL out with their picnic baskets. I saw a ton of wine glasses too. It was all very laid-back and elegant at the same time.
Here’s our group!
A tiny snippet of the evening. This solo was so unique!
