Monserate Winery is located within the lush region of Fallbrook, in an area that stays green & shaded all year long. Just the drive alone to this quaint neighborhood is worth a visit. The 116-acre winery is run by one dedicated family and their employees, fueled by their passion for both wine and their community.
The property had been a golf course for 56 years prior to becoming the winery it is today. In fact, the winery almost didn’t happen at all as the land was originally set to be developed into high-density housing. Thankfully the family was able to purchase the property and provide a beautiful gathering space for the public.
Monserate Winery is still in its earliest stages and will see a huge transition within the next couple years. When complete, it will consist of three distinct venues. Wine tasting and dining will be inside a beautiful old Italian-style building which will also include an ornate barrel room and courtyard.
There will a garden themed villa similar with similar architecture to the main facility. Finally, there will be a rustic barn style venue. These buildings will overlook their vineyard and lakes with beautiful rolling hills in the background. The winery will also double as an event space for weddings, special occasions, and private events.
When I visited Monserate Winery in early 2022, the future plans of the property were only shown in renderings, which can be viewed inside the winery. Trust me when I say that they have big plans for a type of winery that San Diego has never seen before. If you can’t afford to travel to Italy, you won’t need to because Italy is being brought into our own backyard!
Even before the huge transition, this is such a peaceful place to visit. They have beautiful lakes with daily visits from local wildlife, absolutely delicious food and wine and even a hiking trail behind the winery if you want a day of adventure!
For those who want an adventure before or after you visit the winery, they have a trail on their property! Ask one of the employees to point it out to you!
