I am always on the lookout for new, innovative ways to naturally heal and refresh the body.  Even if your body is not in distress, prevention is the key to living a quality life long-term. I learned about chromotherapy saunas a couple years ago and its amazing health benefits. It has been a huge game-changer for my health and I now go weekly for a body and mind uplift.

Chromotherapy, also known as color therapy, is actually an ancient form of healing which uses both light and color to heal the body.  Combine this treatment with an infrared sauna and you have yourself quite a powerhouse for detoxing!  At Blue Life Wellness Studio, their saunas have built in chromotherapy lights which you can change throughout your treatment. Here’s what I was able to learn about this method:

What is Chromotherapy:

Every color has its own frequency and vibration.  Just as we learn in school, colors have a powerful effect on the psyche.  Fast food chains, for instance, take advantage of color to manipulate us in ways we may not even realize.  Have you ever noticed how many fast food restaurant’s main color theme is red and yellow? Red triggers stimulation, appetite, hunger and it attracts attention. Yellow triggers the feelings of happiness and friendliness.  It all makes sense why they would use those colors!

Our organs, muscles, cells and nerves all have a level of vibration as well. When our body becomes out of balance, this is when disease can begin developing. Through extensive research, it has been shown that color and light will help bring our physical and emotional systems into balance.


History of Chromotherapy:

It turns out that the ancient Egyptians had their own chromotherapy system for healing.  They built solarium-type rooms with colored panes of glass or silk cloths placed over the windows.  They would then lay in these rooms in the daytime and allow the sun to shine through the colored-glass windows to improve mood enhancement and combat various ailments. Early color and light healers in the modern world used colored gels and sheets of glass to apply light to the body as well.

Today, there are many practitioners who use color and light in interesting ways. Some therapists have a box with a mechanism that flickers light into the eyes. They report success in speeding the recovery of stroke victims and those persons who experience chronic depression.


Color Chart:

Here is a list of each color and how they can help with healing the body:

RED: Brings warmth, energy and stimulation; therefore good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. It energizes heart and blood circulation. It energizes all organs and the senses.

YELLOW: Increases neuromuscular tone. Purifies blood, helps digestion and has a cleansing effect. Strongly stimulates happiness, brings on a sense of security, as well as a strong feeling of well-being.

GREEN: Is a cooling, sedating color, which helps reduce swelling of joints and tissues; it calms the body’s nervous system. It’s the color of the relaxed heart.

TURQUOISE: Increases intuition and sensitivity. It mentally relaxes and tackles embodied psychological barriers. It acts as a tonifier and can help regulate imbalances in the lung and large intestines system. It facilitates spiritual growth.

BLUE: Is a cool color that is calming. It stimulates the parasympathetic system, and reduces blood pressure and calms both breathing and heart-rate. It helps treat sleep disorders and headaches

VIOLET: Promotes awareness and consciousness. It increases effects of medication. It promotes proper functioning of the lymphatic system and very helpful with menopause. It is the color for neutralizing emotional wounds and for spiritual growth.

Infrared Sauna:

Saunas are one of the most powerful ways to detox the body.  Using an infrared sauna instead of a traditional sauna will still give you a great sweat without extreme heat due to it being light instead of a heater. The benefits of using an infrared sauna are similar to those experienced with a traditional sauna, which include:

* better sleep
* relaxation
* detoxification
* weight loss
* relief from sore muscles
* relief from joint pain such as arthritis
* clear and tighter skin
* improved circulation
* help for people with chronic fatigue syndrome

Personal Experience: 

Whenever I am feeling low or in pain emotionally or physically, I look for ways to heal.  Oftentimes my form of healing is through nature, but I am always open to other methods to recharge and refresh.  After trying the chromotherapy sauna at Blue Life Wellness I am HOOKED!  I went in there feeling pretty ill due to autoimmune symptoms I’ve slowly developed over the years.  I actually left feeling completely recharged!

I was incredibly surprised to notice that each time I changed the color there was an immediate shift in how I felt.  It was subtle but definitely there. I don’t know what magic is going on in there but I highly recommend everyone to give this a chance, especially if you’re already into saunas or in deep need of transformation in your life.  This is a great tool for healing!
