Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

Personal Experience: I know some of you are into this type of urban exploration, so I thought I would begin showing storm drains. I'm a bit of a claustrophobic wuss so I cannot tell you at this point how far this drain goes or whether or not it breaks off into multiple directions. I can tell you that the exploring we did do was a lot of fun and with a larger group I would maybe be willing to go much further. If any of you have gone through this drain, I would love to know where it ends up! There were what sounded like thousands of frogs in the pond also which added a nice touch.

We have a few other tunnels you can explore which include the Alvarado Tunnel, Meadowbrook Tunnel and Half Moon Tunnel.

The storm drain is locate across from Outback Steakhouse:

This drain heads north under the Target center and turns into a culvert on the other side of Twin Peaks. Try heading south, under the park towards Abaraxas school. You’ll find some very strange graffiti in there!

You should also check out the tunnels and paths under Community Road before you go up the hill towards Stowe.

Hello. I am a writer in San Diego and would like to find out more about these tunnels/drains. As a kid growing up in San Clemente we used to explore similar drains all of the time. Does anyone know more about the tunnels? If so could you help me out? Thanks. You can contact me at dorianhargrove at gmail.

The tunnel goes under the shopping center to the north, all the way to the neighborhood 4 or 5 blocks away. It does not split off in any other direction. Pretty cool grafitti. It’s a fun, quick walk and better at night.

There is a very similar storm drain in University City. It starts across the street from UC High and comes out well over a mile away. It goes under the parking lot at the school and follows down a road the connects to a path at the back of the school. The tunnel is the continuation of Rose Creek. I have been several times and NO BATS. All the graffiti is just kids but some of it is pretty funny being that I know some of the people it references being a UCHS alum. It is typically dry in there unless it has rained in the past week, a heads up though it runs directly under a residential street with grates so if someone is watering their lawn or washing their car the water will drain into the tunnel. It is very dark so a flashlight is needed. Pretty neat to check out, surprised it isn’t on here already.

Been down this one as far as it goes, I think we figured it was about 2-3 miles long. It gradually gets smaller as you continue but is a comfortable standing height for anyone below ~5’3” or so. There’s a lot of cool graffiti in this storm drain that’s further than the pictures show. After a while the graffiti will die down but then picks back up again at the end of the tunnel. You’ll know you’ve reached the end once you find two smaller drains that would be I’ll-advised to try and crawl through.
